ImageIn 2006, Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints shocked the football world, going 10-6, and reaching the NFC Championship. Many speculated that teams would be geared up to play the Saints, and that New Orleans would find many motivated opponents, as teams across the league would want to prove that 2006 was just a fluke.

Pre-season records are never a stable platform to make regular season predictions, but judging from the time the Saints #1's are in the game, including the two previous games vs. Buffalo and Cincinnati, this team is certain to make a run for the Super Bowl.

Saints QB Drew Brees, completed 17-19 passes, for 182 yards and one touchdown, a four yard strike to free agent pick up, WR David Patten. Brees' two incompletions on the night were drops (no need for explaining the significance of the two drops). All this was done, without the help of starting receivers Marques Colston and Devery Henderson.

The Saints moved the ball against the Chiefs with relative ease, while the Chiefs struggled to put points on the board, scoring their only points of the game late in the 4th quarter.  Chiefs QB, Brodie Croyle, played mediocre at best, completing 5 of 17 passes, for 45 yards and 1 INT.

If not for two outstanding stops by the Kansas City defense on 4th and short, the score would have been much uglier.

ImageRB Reggie Bush looks primed for a breakout season, as he flashed his speed on a nice 24 yard carry off of the left tackle. Bush finished with 51 yards on 6 attempts.  Fifth string RB Pierre Thomas, would later come in to seal the deal, with two TD's in the fourth quarter.  Thomas finished the game with 11 carries for 90 yards. New Orleans finished with 479 total yards.  The Chiefs amassed only 153 total yards.

The Saints plan to rest their starters next week in preparation for the season-opener against the Colts, on September 6th.

The fans in Kansas City should be worried.  Chiefs RB Larry Johnson, may be in for a long, disappointing season, if things don't improve down in KC.
