Michael Vick Reaches Plea Agreement

My grandmother used to tell me, “Be careful of the company you keep.”  Michael Vick may have been in a different situation had we had the same grandmother.

Vick is now certain to serve time in prison, after many media sources have verified that Vick and his legal team have reached an agreement with the federal authorities.

ImageMichael Vick is an athlete with talent like none other in the National Football League. Vick is blessed with the ability to throw missiles with his left arm, and outrun cheetahs with his feet.  Now, Vick can only dream of his days in the spotlight.  Vick's dreams of leading the Falcons to the big game, or now overshadowed by the big “G”, as in “guilty.”

Vick now has no podium to defend himself as a capable passer.  He can no longer complain of not having dependable receivers.  His numbers are what they are.  A 53% career passer, who in spite of his sub-par receiving talent, could run the Falcons out of a 3rd and 12, with the same efficiency that Peyton Manning could find Marvin Harrison in a similar down and distance.

For the next few years of his life, Michael Vick may realize that invincible is only a word, and that justice is one of the most humbling experiences any man or woman could face.

No one is perfect, and every human is cursed with his or her own flaws.  ImageVick’s involvement with this ring of illegal activities has stymied much more than Vicks freedom. Falcon fans, whether they hate him or not, or still left cheering a team, minus one of the most feared, and talented players in league history. Vick was a super star, and a pleasure to watch, regardless of what public scrutiny his actions may have brought about.

Imagine Charger fans unexpectedly losing LaDainian Tomlinson to a similar fate. Imagine Colts fans losing Peyton Manning to some unforeseeable set of circumstances.  How about the New Orleans Saints losing Bush.  The league is full of great talent, but very few players are superstars. Michael Vick, emotions aside, was a superstar.  Vick's guilty plea, and subsequent jail time, will be served by more people, than could ever be publicly documented.

We can only hope that my grandmothers’ words can be magnified through the tough realities, like those faced by the troubled, soon to be former Atlanta Falcon QB.

Vick's actions are indefensible, and the wretched details of the alleged crimes are enough to turn iron stomachs. Only Vick can truly speak of any life lessons learned or offer any words of deep regret. Falcon fans are now left hoping for Joey Harrington to turn this ongoing nightmare into a decent nights’ sleep.

My grandmother also offered me these priceless words of caution, “Trouble is easy to get into, and hell to get out of.”

In the coming months, “Hell”, will present itself to Michael Vick in the shape of a jail cell.
