Defensive Rookie Watch
1. Patrick Willis- Willis leads the NFL with 136 tackles (107 solo). After coming off of two consecutive games with 18 tackles, the fearsome linebacker had only 8 in a 27-7 loss to the Vikings Sunday. Forget about the rookies, Willis leads the NFL in tackles and has 17 more than Detroit’s Ernie Simms NFL lead. Forget about Brian Urlacher and Ray Lewis---Willis is the future and the future is now. Never mind defensive rookie of the year, Willis is trying to become the NFL defensive player of the year.
2. Jon Beason- The second best rookie linebacker in the league, Carolina’s Beason is flying under the radar with 110 tackles (85 solo), which is second among rookies and seventh in the NFL. The 25th pick out of Miami, Beason is making his presence felt in the NFC South. Beason had 12 tackles in a 37-6 loss to the Jaguars Sunday.
3. Michael Griffin- Griffin took advantage of a bewildered Phillip Rivers with one interception and 7 tackles in Tennessee’s 23-17 loss to San Diego Sunday. The free safety out of Texas has 37 tackles and 2 interceptions on the season.
4. David Harris-After the Jets selected Darrelle Revis with their first round pick, they selected Harris out of Michigan in the second round. Harris is third among rookies with 100 tackles (71 solo) and 3 sacks. Harris picked up 9 tackles 24-18 loss to the Browns Sunday.
5. Darrelle Revis- Revis only had 3 tackles 24-18 loss to the Browns. On the season, Revis has 75 tackles, 14 passes defended and 2 interceptions. He and Harris should anchor the Jets defense for years to come. Please send all comments and questions to
