LSU Dominates Miss. State in Opener

More than rain was pouring on Sylvester Croom's Bulldogs.  Sophomore QB Michael Henig threw 6 passes to LSU defenders, as the LSU Tigers shutout the Mississippi State Bulldogs 45-0.

ImageLSU got off to a slow start, as QB Matt Flynn tried to run and pass his way through a constant downpour in Starkville, Mississippi. Flynn rushed 12 times for 44 yards, displaying above average running ability. The Tigers showed new wrinkles in their offense, implementing a speed option into its offensive game plan (something the Tigers could not have done last year with JaMarcus Russell).  LSU's senior QB also threw for 130 yards on 12 of 19 passing, with 2 TD's.  Flynn hooked up with WR Early Doucet, on a  11 yard TD strike.  Doucet finished the game with 9 receptions for 76 yards.

Mississippi State looked outmatched and overwhelmed throughout the entire contest.  LSU's blitzing defense caused many rushed and inaccurate passes by Henig. The play of corners Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Zenon was outstanding, as advertised.  LSU safety Craig Steltz intercepted three passes on the night. The Tigers only allowed 138 total yards, and forced 7 turnovers.

The Tigers are now set to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. This promises to be an emotional outing for the Hokies, as the fans in Blacksburg will enter with high spirits, still recovering from the horrific events of this past April.
