Football Gameplan's Big Games of the Week
Wofford Terriers (6-1) @ Appalachian State Mountaineers (6-2) Shhhh... Appalachian State has quietly passed Elon as the Number 2 team in the SoCon with a chance to be at the top with a victory against the hated Terriers. You can't count out the 3-time defending champs. However, this Wofford defense was able to put the clamps on an explosive Elon offense last week...can they do the same to Armanti Edwards and ASU? Prediction: Appalachian State 27 - Wofford 25
Northern Iowa Panthers (6-2) @ Western Illinois Leathernecks (5-2) Wow! Big game in the Gateway Conference this week. WIU has one of the best running backs in the country, regardless of division, in Herb Donaldson. The Panthers will have some issues trying to stop him from having a big day. Northern Iowa has some issues playing on the road and I like the defensive matchup that the Leathernecks have in store for the Panthers. Western Illinois have to win the next two games against UNI and SIU to climb to the top of the conference. They understand the magnitude of the game. Prediction: Western Illinois 30 - Northern Iowa 24
Central Arkansas Bears (7-1) @ Nicholls State Colonels (1-4) The Bears will be playing with heavy hearts this week after dealing with the tragedy on their campus. Central Arkansas has a golden opportunity to further distance themselves from the rest of the pack by defeating the Colonels and setting the stage for a huge game next week against Northwestern State. The Colonels defense will give them fits for awhile, but look for the Bears to avoid the trap game and pull away late. Prediction: Central Arkansas 30 - Nicholls State 13
Northwestern State Demons (5-3) @ Texas State Bobcats (5-3) The Bobcats completely destroyed Stephen F. Austin last week with the excellent play of their playmaking RB Karrington Bush. The Demons have looked shaky on the road this season, granted one of their games were against FBS Baylor, but even in the loss against Southeastern Louisiana they looked questionable. I find it hard to pick against Bush and the Bobcats after what I saw them do to a SFA team that I thought had a shot to win...Goes to show you that I don't know jack! Prediction: Texas State 35 - Northwestern State 24 Dayton Flyers (7-1) @ San Diego Toreros (6-1) Huge game in the Pioneer Conference this week. The San Diego Toreros junior QB Sebastian Trujillo has done an awesome job this year replacing Josh Johnson (Tampa Bay Bucs) by tossing 23 touchdowns and only 6 ints. I love the way Dayton plays defense and that will be the key in this game that could either strengthen the Flyers lead in first place or push the Toreros into second place with an eye on that Butler game in two weeks. Should be a dandy! Prediction: Dayton 30 - San Diego 20
