Valdosta State (12-1) vs Northwest Missouri State (12-1)

TV: Saturday at 12 P.M. Eastern on ESPN

Long after the fanfare, pomp and circumstance the news streaking across the airwaves this Saturday afternoon will be shocking for some, and a surprise for many others in the world of Division II football. That’s because no one ever expects David to defeat Goliath. That’s right Valdosta State University Blazers (David) will take on the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats (Goliath). Need I say more? When the smoke clears, I believe VSU will be the 2007 NCAA Division IIImage National Champion. Valdosta has already proven they are worthy of the challenge. Last week they defeated the No.1 defense in DII, the California State University Vulcan. That game was decided in the final 90 seconds.

Also, last week NW Missouri State proved three times could be a charm. After losing to Grand Valley State in the 2005 and 2006 National Championship games, NW Missouri State finally has its sweet revenge. They defeated Grand Valley State, in last week’s semi-final game to wrap up three meetings in as many years. Something tells me the Grand Valley State game was the biggest game of the post season for the Bearcats. However, if they fail to focus on VSU Saturday, a balanced VSU attack will make them pay. The key to this game is Willie Copeland. If NW Missouri State can keep pressure on him, they will win. Unfortunately for the Bearcats, the VSU offensive line is peaking at the perfect time. Valdosta State is an exceptional team and more than capable of securing another championship victory. The Blazers have been underdogs in every national championship appearance since 2002. In 2004 as underdogs they went on to defeat an excellent Pittsburg State team and win the championship. Just because they are underdogs, don't expect them sit or rollover. On another note, this is the third NCAA Division II appearance for both teams since 2002. Do the Bearcats have any charms left?

Prediction: Blazers 24 Bears 21
